Giovanni Appendino is Professor of Chemistry at the Università del Piemonte Orientale, Faculty of Pharmacy, Novara (Italy). His research activity is focused on the isolation, chemical modification, and total synthesis of bioactive natural products of plant origin. In recognition of his studies, he was awarded the Rhône-Poulenc Rorer Award of the Phytochemical Society of Europe in 1991, the Medaglia Quilico of the Società Chimica Italiana in 2009, and the Bruker Award of the Phytochemical Society of Europe in 2014. Giovanni Appendino has authored over 350 research articles and 15 book chapters on the chemistry and bioactivity of plant products. He is Editor-in-chief of the Journal Fitoterapia, and member of the Advisory Board of Natural Products Reports, Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products, PharmaNutrition, Natural Products Communications and Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B.
