Prof Dr Hermann Stuppner

Prof. Dr. Hermann Stuppner, born in Italy, studied Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Innsbruck, was then licensed as qualified pharmacist in Italy, and received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Biology from the University of Munich. He did his postdoc stay at the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology, Phytochemical & Toxicology Laboratory, University of California and was then habilitated at the Institute of Pharmacognosy, University of Innsbruck. Since 2001 he is Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Biology, Head of the Institute of Pharmacy/Pharmacognosy at the University of Innsbruck and since 2003 he is Dean of studies of the Faculty of Chemistry & Pharmacy. His main research interests are: • Isolation and structural elucidation of secondary metabolites from higher plants with anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-microbial activities • Analysis and quality assessment of (medicinal) plants and phyto-pharmaceuticals • Discovery of pharmaceutically active natural products by means of computer aided models • NMR-based metabolic profiling
